MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook
Wind: that is how MSI named their new netbooks. Maybe they want their netbook to be sold like wind or maybe because the netbooks are so lightweight. No matter which one is true, or maybe both, however MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook is truly an elegant machine yet portable. The size is just right. Not to big like traditional laptop and also not to small like the 8.9 inch.
Like other netbooks, MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook is horsed by Intel Atom, the new generation of processor from Intel, specials for low to medium usage. It is design to accommodate daily average application such us: Office application, web browsing, multimedia, etc. The main feature of the processor is the low energy usage which is more environmental friendly.
However, Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook has an advantage compared to other netbook. It is easily over-clocked however we need o upgrade the BIOS to the newer 1.1B version. It’s original from MSI so there is no need to worry of breaking the warranty. To over-clock simply press Fn + F10 to toggle to Turbo Mode. There is an options of how much do you wish the processor to be over-clocked. The choices are 8%, 16 % and 24 %. Many people are able to run it on 24 % without any trouble. That means nearly 2 GHz, or 1.984 GHz to be precisely; an amazing jump from the original clock speed of 1.6 GHz.
An over-clocked processor is like a waste if the RAM is small. However, with this netbook, RAM upgrading is not a deadly task. Just unscrew the bolts on the bottom, this won’t void the warranty, then add another 1 GB RAM to get a total of 2 GB of RAM. Note that this netbook come with an onboard 1 GB RAM, and the extension slot doesn’t support 2 GB. That is why, it is important to get another 1 GB of RAM and not 2 GB as a single RAM chip. Its brother, U120, doesn’t seem to support RAM upgrading so this one is the right choice if you want to upgrade the RAM.
Some features of Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook includes: Intel Atom 1.6 GHz Processor, 512 KB L2 Cache, 533 MHz Bus speed, 160 GB SATA Hard Drive, 1GB DDR2 667MHz RAM; 2 GB Max, 10 WSVGA (1024 x 600) LED Backlit Display, Two internal Speakers, Built-in 1.3 Megapixel Web camera and Microphone, Built-in 802.11b/g Wireless, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, 4-in-1 Card Reader – SD, MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, 3 x USB 2.0, Headphone out; Microphone-in, VGA, RJ-45, Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition.

Great blog found this via twitter im just adding to my blog now.
Hi, gr8 post thanks for posting. Information is useful!
Thanks for the useful information. I was checking to see that this model does indeed support a memory upgrade before I go ahead an attempt it. However I have to wonder about your statement “just unscrew the bolts on the bottom, this won’t void the warranty” My unit clearly has a sticker over one of the screws on the bottom that WILL void the warranty if removed. I’ve heard other owners mention that upgrading the memory voids the warranty which is another reason I am checking. I thought it worth mentioning for others who may come across this review.
Thanks for the notice Ken.
