Although Toshiba Portege Z830 is intended for mobile computing, this ultrabook is designed to have high performance for various activities.
Intel’s ambition to force laptop manufacturer to design super slim and super light laptop seems to be quite successful. It’s shown from the birth of several ultrabooks which compete on having the slimmest body and the lowest energy consumption while maintaining a good performance.
Toshiba doesn’t want to be left behind from this competition. They finally released Ultrabook positioned as a stylish business laptop by introducing the Portege Z830 series. This is one of the lightest ultrabook available on the market, weighted only 1.12 kg, and super slim that the thickest part is only 8.3 mm. The slimy body of Z830 reminds us of the Macbook Air and Asus Zenbook which are available earlier.
Toshiba Z830 is so slim that seems to be very fragile but apparently it’s not. Toshiba uses a strong magnesium-alloy for the body to protect its delicate electronic inside. This material is combined with the used of honeycomb rib structure which is designed to spread external vibration hence reducing the pinpoint shock. As for the storage, Toshiba wisely uses a 128 GB SSD (Solid State Device) which is slimmer and more shock-resistant compared to conventional hard drive, although it is more expensive.
The Z830-S8301 uses the Intel Core i5-2557M processor with clock speed of 1.70GHz. This processor is a ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) device which consumes less power. The advance processor is supported with 4 GB DDR3 to make this laptop as a high-end business laptop.
One drawback is this portege series is the use of Intel HD3000 for its graphic segment, which is not so superior when playing modern games. But as this ultrabook is positioned as a business not a gaming laptop, this drawback is so minor.
Though the graphic card is average, Toshiba doesn’t sacrifice the audio side. The Z830 comes with stereo speakers powered by MaxxAudio®, providing outstanding aural performance with sound that’s louder, clearer, fuller and more lifelike. This is great for listening music, watching movies or youtube.
How long does the battery last?
Toshiba claimed the battery will last for an outstanding 8.28 hours with its standard Li-Ion (47Wh, 8-Cell) battery. Other great features are the spill-resistant keyboard, backlight keyboard and the beautiful 13.3 inch HD TFT LED screen.
