Everybody now seems eager to play on the mini notebook area. This is fairly understandable since the huge rise of demand of this type of notebook. As far as I know, Apple is the only company who hasn’t launches any mini notebook. Everyone else does compete their mini notebook, including Hewlett Packard.

HP Mini 110-1030NR 10.1-Inch Netbook is the HP newest mini notebook with price tag less than $350. Package in a black swirl imprint case, this baby has a tougher but majestic look. Its light weight and small size is ideal for mobile computing. The 10.1″ Diagonal SD LED Anti-glare Widescreen Display is fabulous, better than the Acer one.

Another plus for this mini notebook is the HP Syncables application. Syncables app syncs files, photos and videos easily with your primary notebook or desktop PC whenever connected to the same network. After initial Syncable setup, the file updates will occur in the background for a truly seamless experience.

The 6-cell battery is capable to power the unit for more than 5 hours, quite an average for a mini notebook class. However, the 6-cell battery is a bit bulky. It gives extra thickness on the rear back, and although it will give you a more ergonomic keyboard feeling and a firmer grip when you carry it, it may not fit properly on normal mini notebook sleeves.

Some features of HP Mini 110-1030NR 10.1-Inch are 1.60 GHz Intel Atom Processor N270, 1 GB DDR2 RAM (1 Dimm) (1 GB Maximum), 160GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive (SATA), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, 10.1 inch Diagonal SD LED Anti-glare Widescreen Display (1024×576), 6 Cell Battery, Genuine Windows XP Home edition with Service Pack 3.

Product dimension is 6.8 x 10.3 x 1.3 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds.

Bored with the old looking mini notebook which feels fragile, has short battery life, too small keyboard and touchpad? Well, finally we have the solution. Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 10.1-Inch Netbook offers an outstanding 9 hours battery life, full-size keyboard, big touchpad, sturdy case and great display screen.

I was wondering why Toshiba as a leading notebook/laptop manufacturer hasn’t launched any mini notebook while their competitor already released several series of their mini notebook. Now, I understand that Toshiba wants perfection. They want that their mini notebook to hit the market with a more customer oriented value, not just releasing crappy things on behalf of competition.

Toshiba wisely choose to equip their Mini NB205-N210 with a 5800 mAh 6-cell battery. Although the battery did add an additional thickness on the rear (be careful that most 10 inch case/sleeve cannot accommodate this extra thickness), it greatly adds the battery life to 9 hours, an acceptable solution rather than carrying the brick AC adapter all day long to school or work.

Another excellent point of the Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 10.1-Inch Netbook is the big touchpad. Many customers complaint about the too small touchpad on other netbook so that normally they prefer to turn it off and use a mouse instead. However, Toshiba’s engineers brilliantly put a big and usable touchpad on this mini notebook. They also managed to squeeze a full-size keyboard too. Damned genius!

Some features of Toshiba Mini NB205-N210 10.1-Inch Netbook are Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz Processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10.1-inch LED backlit widescreen display (1024 x 600-pixel resolution), 5800 mAh 6-Cell Battery, Three USB Sleep-and-Charge ports, Full-sized keyboard, 3D-accelerometer monitoring system to protect the hard drive, Windows XP Home.

Product dimension is 8.4 (not 7.6) x 10.4 x 1.3 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds.

Asus Eee PC 1005HA-P is currently the newest and the highest specs of the Eee PC 1005HA series. The lower one is the 1005HA-V, and the lowest is the 1005HA-B. While the P series uses Intel Atom N280 1.66 GHz, the other two lower series uses the N270 1.6 GHz. That doesn’t seem to be quite different, right? Well, that’s not the only different. A more substantial different is on the battery life.

The Asus Eee PC 1005HA-P series is said to last for 10.5 hours without re-charging, while the V series last for 8.5 hours and the B series only 4.5 hours. Other difference is the screen type. The P series uses a glossy screen while the two lower series uses a matte screen. As you know, glossy screen provides a sharper and clearer image but invites more glare than a matte one.

So now it’s clear the winner is the P series. The next question is whether the money is worth the higher quality? Hell, Yes. ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Netbook is sold at less than $380 on Amazon. I don’t even bother to check the lower two series price. I don’t even want to know.

It’s already shockingly cheap for specs like that. 10.5 hours runtime without recharging means a lot of things. It means no need to carry that bulgy charger everywhere. It means more security when you are in the middle of important teleconference. It means portable really does have a meaning, not just a word.

Some features of ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BK 10.1-Inch Netbook are: Intel Atom N280 Processor 1.66GHz, 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM) and 10GB Free Eee Storage, 10.1-inch WSVGA 1024×600 LCD Display, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 1 x SODIMM Slot, 2GB Max; Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Up to 10.5 Hours of Battery Life and Free Sleeve Case Included, 1.3MP webcam and digital array microphones, Windows XP Home Operating System.

Product dimension is 10.3 x 7 x 1 inches and weighs 2.9 pounds.

Finally, here comes a netbook with a full size keyboard. It took a while before the industry listens to the customers who demand bigger keyboard for their netbook, and Samsung is the one who answer it. Samsung N120-12GW 10.1-Inch Netbook is their first netbook to accommodate this keyboard in its tiny body. Samsung really knows how to save space for something important. Full size keyboard means many things. It means faster typing, fewer typing error, more comfortable finger working, less stress, etc.

The battery is also very amazing. Its 6-cell battery which is shipped together with this machine, if you buy it from Amazon, is claimed to last for 10.5 hours. This is pretty impressive considering that other brands would hardly goes to 9 hours. Even though, I think this will only be achieved in the Power Saving Mode. Even if, say, it would only goes for 9 hours, I think this is still great since that means you can work all day long without the need to take the charger to the office, hence reducing the weight and bulk to carry your laptop.

Samsung also accommodates a battery extender like the Lenovo business notebooks. This allows you to only charge the battery to about 80% if you are going to use it on AC. As you know, the battery life will decrease if it is always charged full to 100 %, another proof that Samsung really care for the health of their machine. Samsung N120-12GW 10.1-Inch Netbook comes with the energy efficient 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB of RAM and 160 GB Hard Drive providing more than enough capacity to do daily activities, like: browsing the Internet, doing some office application, enjoying movies and songs.

The display, although it is said to be glossy, is actually not too glossy. At least when compared to Acer Asipre or ASUS Eee PC, Samsung N120-12GW is less glared and less glossy. The LED type display which is very efficient in consuming energy is also very bright to accommodate its max 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. Around the display, Samsung embeds two speakers with built-in subwoofers which produce fantastic sound, clear and loud with some bass effect, much better than any other small laptop on the market. Although this netbook is a bit more expensive than some others on the market, I think it’s worth the extra money.

Some features of Samsung N120-12GW 10.1-Inch Netbook includes: 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB of RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 6 Cell Battery, 10.1 diagonal WSVGA (1024 x 600) Display, Built-in 1.3 Mega pixel Web camera and Microphone, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 945, Built-in Stereo Speakers, 802.11b/g Wireless, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, 3-in-1 Card Reader – SD, SDHC, MMC, Ports : 3 x USB 2.0, Headphone out; Microphone-in, VGA, RJ-45. Operating system: Microsoft XP Home with Service Pack 4.

Approximate unit dimension is 10.27 x 7.3 x 1.21 inches and approximate unit weight is 2.8 Pounds.

Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook

Need a portable netbook? You can consider Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook. It is small, but not to small. 10.2 inch is just the right size for a netbook, smaller than this size, it is a night mare and bigger than this, it will be too much, to heavy, to big, and just to much just to type office document or browse the internet, and also maybe to expensive. Lenovo gives a great size for their new netbook. You can easily carry it anywhere and use it almost anywhere.

This portable laptop although it is small, however is full of amazing features. Intel Atom N270 with 1.6 GHz clock speed horses this netbook. The Atom processor uses only 2.5 watt of power, compare to 35 watt of the Intel Core 2 Duo, conserving more power and hence provide longer battery life span. The 3-cell battery is a bit drawback compare to the other competitor which already uses 6-cell battery, however you can always upgrade it to provide more battery life. For the data storage, this netbook comes with a 160 GB of Hard drive. This is considerably big for a small machine like this. This is a good point since Hard Drive price is constantly decreasing.

To support the processor, Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook comes with a 1 GB of RAM. This size is more than enough for average daily application, such as: Office application, browsing the Internet, listening to music, watching movies and playing some light games. However, if you are a heavy user, such as doing some video editing, graphic designing or playing heavy games than you should consider to upgrade the RAM. Luckily, this machine is easily upgraded. Unscrew several bolts on the bottom of the machine, and you can spot the Hard Drive and RAM slot, then add the additional RAM and that’s it. Your RAM is upgraded. It’s deadly easy.

The only drawback of this machine is the lack of DVD. For those who like to watch movies on their journey, you need to consider to buy an external DVD drive, which I think will just create another trouble, or you can save the movies in the enormous space of the Hard Drive. You can create a DVD or CD image of your favorite movie using MagicDisc, my favorite emulator drive, from another computer. Please Googling to find where to download it. It’s a free software and very light.

Some features of the Lenovo Ideapad S10 10.2-Inch Netbook includes: 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10.2 inch size LED back light screen, Battery:3 Cell Lithium-Ion, USB, WiFi, Microsoft Windows XP Home.

Product dimension is 7.2 x 9.8 x 1.1 inches and weighs 2.8 pounds.

Mobility is the impact of globalization, and as one become more mobile, the need to have portable devices increases. People need to communicate to their relatives as well as typing report for their customer almost anywhere and at any time. Several high end mobile phones which feature office application, camera and web browser are the solution of this need. However, now with the emerging of small laptops, also known as netbooks, why not consider to use this small and beautiful gear. Yes, it is bigger but it is more flexible.

With the Acer Aspire One AOA110-1588 8.9-Inch Netbook, you can have a wonderful communication tool using the WiFi hotspot nearby, that’s include: sending and receiving emails, chat, video conferencing, downloading data and browsing the internet, and meanwhile you also have the flexibility to write an office document, editing multimedia files, and almost any type of computer works. All of this with a device less than a book size with a price of much less than a high end mobile phone. I don’t say you don’t need mobile phone, I’m saying that instead of getting more expensive mobile phone which support all of that but with a much smaller screen, smaller keyboard, smaller memory, why not consider this new baby netbook?

This netbook is horsed by the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, which is very efficient in consuming energy. It consumes only 2.5 watts of power, compare to 35 watts of Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which provide more battery life span. 1 GB, maximum of 1.5 GB, of RAM is used to run the application. For the storage, Acer Aspire One AOA110-1588 8.9-Inch Netbook uses 8 GB NAND Drive and 8 GB SD card, providing a total of 16 GB of hard drive space. The NAND drive is a flash memory solid-state drive (SSD). Faster and more reliable, flash memory provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications while improving battery life. Flash memory is also more reliable than hard disk memory, mainly because there are no moving parts.
Because of its size, the Aspire One does not come with an integrated optical drive, but optional CD/DVD read/write drives can be connected to the laptop via one of the three USB ports. For the connectivity, the famous Acer’s SignalUp technology is used to increase the efficiency and strength of the WiFi antenna which support b and g standard, giving you ease and comfort to connect to a nearby hotspot. The display screen is a also generous for it is using the Acer’s CrystalBrite display technology which guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray. With a max resolution of 1024×600 pixels, the screen is comfortable to browse the internet since most web sites uses the resolution.

Some features of Acer Aspire One AOA110-1588 8.9-Inch Netbook includes: 16 GB total storage (8 GB NAND Drive, 8 GB SD card), 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, 1 GB RAM (1.5 GB max), 8.9-inch display with resolution of 1024×600 pixels, integrated webcam, 3-cell battery with up to 2.5-hours of use, 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g); 10/100 Ethernet; Intel GMA 950 graphics, Connectivity: 3 USB, 1 headphone, 1 microphone, Secure Digital slot, multi-format memory card slot, VGA monitor output, Pre-installed with Windows XP Home operating system.

Wind: that is how MSI named their new netbooks. Maybe they want their netbook to be sold like wind or maybe because the netbooks are so lightweight. No matter which one is true, or maybe both, however MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook is truly an elegant machine yet portable. The size is just right. Not to big like traditional laptop and also not to small like the 8.9 inch.

Like other netbooks, MSI Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook is horsed by Intel Atom, the new generation of processor from Intel, specials for low to medium usage. It is design to accommodate daily average application such us: Office application, web browsing, multimedia, etc. The main feature of the processor is the low energy usage which is more environmental friendly.

However, Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook has an advantage compared to other netbook. It is easily over-clocked however we need o upgrade the BIOS to the newer 1.1B version. It’s original from MSI so there is no need to worry of breaking the warranty. To over-clock simply press Fn + F10 to toggle to Turbo Mode. There is an options of how much do you wish the processor to be over-clocked. The choices are 8%, 16 % and 24 %. Many people are able to run it on 24 % without any trouble. That means nearly 2 GHz, or 1.984 GHz to be precisely; an amazing jump from the original clock speed of 1.6 GHz.

An over-clocked processor is like a waste if the RAM is small. However, with this netbook, RAM upgrading is not a deadly task. Just unscrew the bolts on the bottom, this won’t void the warranty, then add another 1 GB RAM to get a total of 2 GB of RAM. Note that this netbook come with an onboard 1 GB RAM, and the extension slot doesn’t support 2 GB. That is why, it is important to get another 1 GB of RAM and not 2 GB as a single RAM chip. Its brother, U120, doesn’t seem to support RAM upgrading so this one is the right choice if you want to upgrade the RAM.

Some features of Wind U100-641US 10-Inch Netbook includes: Intel Atom 1.6 GHz Processor, 512 KB L2 Cache, 533 MHz Bus speed, 160 GB SATA Hard Drive, 1GB DDR2 667MHz RAM; 2 GB Max, 10 WSVGA (1024 x 600) LED Backlit Display, Two internal Speakers, Built-in 1.3 Megapixel Web camera and Microphone, Built-in 802.11b/g Wireless, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, 4-in-1 Card Reader – SD, MultiMedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, 3 x USB 2.0, Headphone out; Microphone-in, VGA, RJ-45, Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition.

Product dimension is 10.23 (L) x 7.08 (D) x 1.24 (H) and weighted 2.3 pounds.

ASUS again launches their mini laptop in an attempt to pace theirs succeed on the ultra portable laptop world. ASUS Eee PC 900HA 8.9-Inch Netbook is the ultimate mini laptop for travelers and students who demand portability and long battery life span. The small sizes, 8.9 x 6.7 x 1.33 inches, and light weight, 2.5 pounds, will make anyone enjoys to take it anywhere. That’s not bigger than your favorite novel. If you can take your novel anywhere then you surely will be able to take this tiny fellow as well.

Although the screen is quite small, however it has a 1024×600 pixel resolution which is very convenient to work with. It’s wide enough to view a website without any need to scroll horizontally. If you ever need to increase the vertical viewing are, you can try to make the windows taskbar into an auto hide mode. This can be done by right-clicking the windows taskbar, choose Properties, and select Auto-hide the Taskbar. The screen is also quite bright and sharp, although it’s as good as Acer Aspire One, which is compensates on the longer battery life span. However, let’s not forget that ASUS offers 30 days of ZBD – Zero Bright Dot – Replacement Warranty if you find a single dead/bright dot on the screen. At least this will prove that the screen has a good quality otherwise ASUS will go bankrupt because of the huge products returned.

Other advantage of the ASUS Eee PC 900HA 8.9-Inch Netbook is it easily upgraded. To upgrade the RAM, you’ll only need to unscrew several bolts on the bottom, and replace the old RAM with the new one. Don’t forget to go to the BIOS after the upgrading to make sure that Windows will recognize the newly installed RAM. No need to change anything on the BIOS, just check the RAM capacity and click save and exit. This is because Windows sometimes failed to recognize the RAM if the BIOS is not updated with the information.

For the processor, ASUS trusted Intel Atom to horse this engine. Its low power consumption, only 2.5 watts compare to 35 watts of Intel Core Duo, enable the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine to save a lot energy when used in the Power Saving Mode. In this mode, this netbook can run for nearly 5 hours. That’s pretty good if you are often away from electrical outlets, and, HEY! Lower power also means you are caring more for the environment.

Some features of the ASUS Eee PC 900HA 8.9-Inch Netbook include: 1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 54g Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), 10/100 Fast Ethernet, Slot for MMC/SD(SDHC) cards, Three USB 2.0 , 0.3 MP Camera, Up to 5 hours of battery life, 10 GB Eee Storage, Windows XP Home.

Product dimension is 8.9 x 6.7 x 1.33 inches and weighted 2.5 pounds.

Since the introduction of ultra portable computer, Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 8.9-Inch Netbook has steal attention of many people. Its small size and light weight are the major factors why this netbook is very famous. With a dimension of 6.7 x 9.8 x 1.1 inches and only 2.2 pounds in weight, this little machine is truly just like a book. However rather than using paper as its material, it uses electronic computer and has an internet capabilities. Hence it is called a netbook.

The idea to make an ultra portable computer is to provide a gadget which is easy enough, small enough and light enough to be carried anywhere but still allows the user to use daily application ands connected to the internet. Because of its simplicity, there are some features, which are normally found on bigger laptop, not available as a built-in component in this netbook. An optical drive or CD/DVD drive is an example. They are available as a separate interface which can be connected via USB. If you don’t want the hassle, simply choose its bigger brother Acer Aspire One AOD 150-1577 10 Inch Netbook. It is only 1.1 inch bigger but already has a DVD drive.

As part of the portability, the battery life is also an important consideration. To provide a longer battery life, Acer chooses to use Intel Atom Processor to horse this baby. Atom processor uses only 2.5 watts of power, compare to 35 watts consumed by Intel Core Duo. However, the Atom processor is not as strong as nor as fast as the Core Duo. It is design to accommodate light to moderate application not a heavy one and that is also a reason why the RAM is also not big. The installed RAM is 1 GB and the max is 1.5 GB. To upgrade the RAM of this netbook is quite a hassle as you have to dismount the case, and to remember that the processor cannot run very fast, I would recommend you to leave the RAM as it is. Remember that ultra portability is the main concern in this netbook.

Even though the product is very small, Acer manages to slide big data storage into this tiny machine. That’s right, Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 8.9-Inch Netbook comes with a 160 GB of hard drive. The huge space is very convenient to save a lot of resources, such as music, movies, photos or other files. In this case, this will not be just a second computer for you but can also act as an external hard drive.

Some features of Acer Aspire One AOA150-1635 8.9-Inch Netbook include: 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 1.3 Megapixel camera, SDHC and multi-format media readers, 802.11b/g, Ethernet, three USB 2.0, VGA, and 3.5mm audio out, Windows XP Home, 6 Cell Battery.

Product dimension is 6.7 x 9.8 x 1.1 inches and only 2.2 pounds in weight.

Despite its new appearance in the netbook world, ASUS, which was formerly known as a computer component manufacturer – such as: motherboard, vga, CD/DVD drive, etc – now has punches its spur on the top lines of netbook manufacturer. Their breakthrough product, ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook, really stands out among netbook products. Its features, user friendliness or production’s process seem to attract more customers to glance at this versatile netbook.

The entire cast frame which forms this netbook uses an infusion system rather than the old fashion way of sprayed paint. This environmental friendly technology is believed to be more resistant to color deterioration and also provide more vibrant color. Who doesn’t want a luxury looking gadget? I bet no one. However, the luxurious of this netbook is not only outside but also inside.

Horsed by the new 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor which require only 2.5 watt of power, compared to 35 watts of Intel Core Duo Processor, this netbook consumes small amount of power hence prolong the battery life. The combination of energy saving Processor, 6600 mAh battery and the exclusive ASUS Super Hybrid Engine are the main trio actors which able to retain the battery for 7 hours without charging in the Power Saving Mode. Remember to switch the default Mode to this Power Saving Mode to increase the battery span and also to reduce the noise. If you ever need a longer battery life, which I doubt, you can try to get a bigger capacity (bigger mAh) battery which is a bit bulkier but then, on the other hand, you need not carry the even bulkier charger anymore to your office. That sounds to be an advantage exchange for me.

By default, ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook is shipped with 1 GB of RAM. For some people, they prefer to invest another $30 to get 2 GB of RAM. If you are among these people then this netbook is the right one for you. The RAM is very easy to install, you only need a small screw driver to open the RAM enclosure, replace the old RAM, and that even wouldn’t void the warranty. After the new RAM installation, don’t forget to go to the BIOS, press F2 when the system start up, and just click save changes and exit. You don’t have to change any configuration at all on the BIOS, just save and exit. This is because Windows will not detect the new RAM unless the BIOS is updated.

Here are some features of the ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook: 10 inches display: 1024 x 600 pixels with LED backlight technology, 1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Three USB 2.0, 1.3 MP camera, Exclusive 10 GB Eee Storage, 6 Cell Battery, 54 Mbps Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), 10/100 Fast Ethernet, Pre-installed Windows XP Home, Free 1 year Warranty (6 month for battery, 30 day ZBD – Zero Bright Dot- Guaranteed)

Product dimension is 10.5 x 7.5 x 1.5 inches and weighted 3.19 pounds.
